Marconi Union Installation Soundtrack

MU recently provided the soundtrack for A Distant Light a new installation that has been installed on Selfridges department store on Oxford Street, London. A Distant Light is a louvred disc nearly ten metres wide on which images from space are displayed. MU’s soundtrack is being constantly streamed from the Selfridges website to enable viewers to simultaneously listen on headphones.

A Distant Light was designed by Artisan a creative studio that has a long history of stage design and installations. The idea being that it could work as an astronomical clock, inspired by our ability to measure time by observing light from distant stars.

Weightless EndlessFor the past few months MU have been working in partnership with American software engineer Raleigh Green and the Marina Abramovic Institute to create an online installation.

The result of these efforts is Weightless / Endless,  which at the moment can be found on the homepage of the MAI website.  Here’s a helpful clue, try clicking at the centre of the star…

There is also an in depth interview with MU and Raleigh on the MAI site which explains the thinking behind Weightless / Endless as a durational piece of work.

More news about Marconi Union and Jah Wobble

The making of Anomic took place over a period of two years. MU had crossed paths with John a number of times and after a while talk had turned to the idea of making a record together, but it actually took quite a while to get started on it.

We had a very clear idea about what we wanted the album to reflect. We were keen to make an “ambient” album that had some grit, the sort of music that might make you think about the wrong side of town. At the same time, we didn’t want to make it doomy and grim.
